Petersen clashes with supporter following Chiefs defeat [Video]

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen was involved in a heated confrontation with a supporter following the club’s 2-1 Nedbank Cup defeat to Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday evening at the DHL Stadium.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper, arguably Amakhosi’s standout performer this season, went into the clash in fine form, having kept four consecutive clean sheets in 2026.

Prior to Wednesday’s match, Petersen had conceded two goals only twice in more than 20 appearances across all competitions.

However, Chiefs found themselves on the back foot early on as Ibraheem Jabaar converted a penalty before Devin Titus doubled Stellenbosch’s lead with a superb strike inside the opening 25 minutes.

Despite a spirited response from the Soweto giants, the home side held on for a 2-1 victory to progress to the next round.

Brandon Petersen clah with fan

Ugly scenes followed the final whistle, with several videos circulating on social media showing clashes involving Kaizer Chiefs supporters both inside and outside the stadium.

In one widely shared clip, Petersen is seen embracing a young fan before another supporter appears to pour water over him from the stands.

The visibly angered goalkeeper then confronted the individual and attempted to retaliate before being restrained by officials and fans, eventually walking back towards the pitchside area.

Many supporters on social media have since come to Petersen’s defence, arguing that the Chiefs captain was provoked and justified in his emotional reaction.

At the time of writing, Kaizer Chiefs have yet to release an official statement regarding the incidents that occurred at the DHL Stadium.

Can Chiefs turn the corner?
