Petersen – Chiefs Stars Not Distracted By DC Case

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen says the club’s players are not thinking about DC rulings or any off-the-field situations, their focus remains on competing on the pitch.

Petersen was speaking ahead of the club’s DStv Premiership clash against Baroka on Saturday, and was asked how the players are keeping focussed while Chiefs face the PSL DC regarding the two fixtures in December they were unable to honour due to a Covid outbreak.

However the former Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits goalkeeper says those issues do not concern the players, and their focus is on the next game.

“At the end of the day our job is to compete on the field, and work hard, not to worry too much about what’s happening outside and what’s happening around,” Petersen told reporters.

“So I think for us it was just to hit the ground running and yes we haven’t had a victory yet this year, but I mean this year is still long and there’s still a lot of games to play for.

“But there’s a lot of improvement in the team and like I’m saying we really looking forward to getting our first victory.”

Petersen says the players shouldn’t be thinking about things they have no control over, and just focus on what they can.

“No the thing is we can’t, because we’re professionals,” he continued.

“At the end of the day if you’re going to play with that stress and that worries, you are not going to be able to do your job.

“So I think for us is just to focus on our craft, our game and what we want to do and take every game as it comes.”

And Petersen also added his side’s aim is to get that first win of 2022 against Baroka on Saturday.

“Well, that’s obviously the aim, you always want to win,” he added.

“So I think if we apply ourselves properly and we do what we’ve been doing in training, because the guys have been looking sharp, been looking good.

“So I think if we apply ourselves properly, we can definitely come out with a victory this week.”
