Penuel compares himself to late Charlie Kirk after assassination

South African podcaster Penuel Mlotshwa has stirred conversation online after drawing a striking comparison between himself and Charlie Kirk.

The right-wing American activist was assassinated on 10 September 2025 during an event at Utah Valley University.

Speaking in a TikTok video shared on 12 September, the Konvo Show host reflected on Kirk’s killing, saying he could relate to the way many people felt about him.

“Charlie Kirk could be me. I’ve said some polarising, triggering and gaslighting things online. Whether it’s about religion, politics, or the ANC government, there are people who have been incredibly upset by some of my utterances,” Penuel admitted.

He explained that his outspoken nature has not only attracted criticism but also placed him in situations where his guests were harassed for their views.

According to him, outspoken voices are often at risk.

“We must remember that in the world out there, there are people who get emotional about what we say and will do crazy things because they are stupid, mentally unstable and very passionate about their cause,” he said.

Penuel went on to sympathise with Kirk’s death, while stressing that he too lives with the reality of being targeted for his bold opinions.
