Controversial Pastor Paseka Mboro of the Incredible Happenings Church, along with his son Vincent Motshoeneng and bodyguard Clement Baloyi, will remain in prison for the next eight days.
This follows their attempted armed kidnapping of Mboro’s two grandchildren from the Matshidiso Primary School in Katlehong on Monday.
The Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court postponed their case to 16 August.
The children’s maternal grandmother and uncle were released on R1,000 bail, and their case was postponed until 10 September. The court ordered that they could not be named to protect the identities of the two children Mboro tried to kidnap.
On Wednesday, the five suspects, including the grandmother and uncle, appeared in court facing 12 charges.
Pastor Mboro: kidnapping; Mboro and Baloyi: discharging a gun, pointing a firearm; Mboro and Motshoeneng: assault by threats; Mboro, Baloyi, and Motshoeneng: malicious damage to property; Mboro and Baloyi: possession of a gun, possession of a prohibited firearm; Baloyi: possession of a firearm, dangerous weapons.
Mboro has filed counter-charges of common assault and intimidation against the children’s maternal grandmother.
The children’s uncle was charged with common assault of a police officer and intimidation.
The controversy began when Mboro, along with his bodyguard and son, stormed Matshidiso Secondary School with semi-automatic weapons, demanding the release of his two grandchildren, who have been in the custody of their maternal grandmother since their mother’s death in April.
The children are now with their paternal grandmother.
Kgadi Hlalele, a member of the maternal family, stated that this was not the first time Mboro had threatened their lives with weapons.
“Last week Wednesday, the children’s father took them out of school during school hours without informing the guardian.
“On Friday, we went to Pastor Mboro’s house to get their chronic medication but were met with insults, and Mboro threatened us with his pangas in front of the police who accompanied us,” she said.
Hlalele added that they were relieved that the maternal grandmother and uncle were released on bail.
“They didn’t commit any crime; in all the videos, they never assaulted anyone or had any weapons,” she said.
