Papa Penny

Veteran musician-turned-politician Papa Penny has found himself trending after a video of him addressing poor road conditions in Giyani sparked comparisons to Helen Zille.

The clip, which began circulating on X shows the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK Party) member standing on a dusty, incomplete road while voicing frustration over long-standing infrastructure issues.

In the video, Papa Penny criticises the African National Congress (ANC), accusing the party of failing to deliver on promises to fix the road since 2021.

The moment quickly drew parallels to Zille’s widely discussed stunt, where she made headlines after drawing attention to service delivery issues in her own dramatic way.

Social media users were quick to point out the similarities, with one post reading, “Papa Penny is pulling a Helen Zille in Limpopo.”

However, the reaction online has been far from one-sided.

While some users saw the move as a bold attempt to highlight community concerns, others criticised Papa Penny, accusing him of hypocrisy due to his previous role as an ANC councillor.

Some even mocked the comparison, joking that he had not taken the stunt as far as Zille did.
