More than 50 pupils from Bambe Primary School were rushed to Estcourt Provincial Hospital after allegedly consuming expired ice lollies.

The children reportedly purchased the SuperCool brand ice lollies from a school vendor during their break time. Shortly after returning to their classrooms, teachers noticed that pupils were complaining of severe stomach pains.

The children were initially taken to Ntabamhlophe Clinic for immediate care before being transported to Estcourt Provincial Hospital for further treatment.

Authorities have since taken the vendor into custody for questioning.

The ice lollies have also been sent for testing to confirm if they were, in fact, expired and the cause of the mass illness.

According to reports, Inkosi Langalibalele Mayor Mduduzi Myeza provided food for the affected children, as well as their parents and teachers, while they awaited test results at the hospital.
