Sundowns finally let out the worst kept secret by confirming that they will not be renewing Jali’s contract, which has put many possible suitors on alert including Orlando Pirates.

Jali was exiled from the Sundowns squad due to reports of the midfielder attending training still under the influence of alcohol. Before that incident, it was thought that his former club Pirates were interested in his services, while their arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs were even strongly rumoured to be readying a January offer to try and tempt the veteran to jump ship ahead of the second half of the current season. For Chiefs, however, their approach reportedly came to a halt after the drinking incident, with club sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr coming out publicly to say the club were never keen on the player. On the Pirates side, their interest came before they signed another veteran midfielder in Makhehlene Makhaula. Since then, it has appeared that there have been very little if any links between the two parties.  In fact It has since been the likes of SuperSport United, Stellenbosch FC, Cape Town City FC and AmaZulu who have been credited with an interest in Jali’s services since.

Most recently, however a strong link to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca had emerged, with the club thought to already be in talks with Jali’s people over a possible deal. Now according to goal.com SA, his agent is set to sit down with the Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza and one of the players he is looking to include in their conversation is the former Bafana Bafana international.

Pirates return on the cards for Jali?

“Speaking to KwaZulu-Natal radio station, Gagasi FM, (Mike) Makaab did not commit to an exact date when he will be headed to Pirates. ‘Yes, I will be meeting the chairman (Khoza) next week to discuss our clients who are at Pirates’, Makaab said when asked if Jali would be part of those discussions”. Wrote the publication.
