Orlando Pirates new era: New coach and captain

Posted on July 29, 2025

Orlando Pirates are set to usher in a new era.

Orlando Pirates will look very different next season – in every way.

The Bucs have a fire new home and away kit. Meanwhile, Abdeslam Ouaddou is the ew Pirates coach tasked with filling the boots of fan-favourite, Jose Riveiro. His first task is appointing a new club captain.

ABDESLAM REPLACES RIVEIRO

Ouaddou is the new Pirates head coach. The Malian’s arrival has come at the same time as many big changes to the Bucs.

Including a total of 11 new signings. Meanwhile, EIGHT players have left Pirates. Amongst the departed players was former club captain, Innocent Maela.

Meaning, Ouaddou and Bucs management must appoint a new Pirates captain. Meanwhile, he has pretty big boots to fill following Riveiro’s departure. The Spaniard lead Pirates to the CAF Champions League semi-finals and second spot in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership. Furthermore, he coach the Bucs to five/six domestic trophies. This includes three MTN8 trophies and two Nedbank Cup titles.

NEW BUCS CAPTAIN SET TO BE APPOINTED

As mentioned, Pirates will have a new skipper next season.

So, the favourites for the coveted Bucs captaincy are Tapelo Xoki and Nkosinathi Sibisi.

The two centre backs have been at the heart of a solid and astute Pirates defence. Meanwhile, they are amongst the most experienced members in the current Bucs squad.

Olisa Ndah’s name has also come up. However, he starts less games than Xoki and Sibisi. Therefore, one of them are more likely to take over the Pirates captaincy.

WHO SHOULD BE THE NEXT PIRATES CAPTAIN? HOW DO YOU THINK THE BUCS WILL DO UNDER OUADDOU’S TENURE?
