Orlando Pirates eye another big derby statement

Orlando Pirates head into Sunda’s Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs as notable favourites after a 3-0 win in the first round.

But two months is a long in football, especially with Amakhosi enjoying a run of six games without tasting defeat.

ORLANDO PIRATES AIM TO REPEAT ANOTHER DOMINANT WIN

According to De Jong, who has scored one goal since joining from Stellenbosch FC in January, says the Sea Robbers aim to repeat the feat but no football matches are identical.

“I think obviously both teams are in good form. So, both teams probably have a bit of confidence coming into this game,” said De Jong.

“But obviously the way the last Derby went, I think, obviously it was a great day for the club and we’ll try to emulate that again on Sunday, but we’re not taking them lightly at all.

“Obviously, any game in the Betway Premiership is very tough. So and then add all the Derby atmosphere to that and 90,000 people, it’s going to be a big day and a high pressure situation, but we’ve handled that well this season,” the Orlando Pirates forward added.

“So, hopefully we can do that again and really stay in the title race,” De Jong concluded.
