Orlando Pirates are overhauling their title-winning squad. A dozen players have left the new champions, while there are seven recruits.

Pirates lose a dozen

South African champions Orlando Pirates will be a new-look outfit next term after several high-profile departures, headlined by that of Relebohile Mofokeng. The following players have left the club:

  • Thabiso Sesane
  • Selaelo Rasebotja
  • Siyabonga Ndlozi
  • Gomolemo Khoto
  • Sonwabo Khumalo
  • Blessing Ngiba
  • Seth Green
  • Thabiso Lebitso
  • Bandile Shandu
  • Sipho Mbule
  • Tshegofatso Mabasa
  • Relebohile Mofokeng

Orlando Pirates’ new signings

Pirates have welcomed seven new players aboard. They are Mthetheleli Mthiyane, Sbangani Zulu, Bohlale Ngwato, Ghampani Lungu, Neo Rapoo, Aphiwe Baliti and Matome Mmolai.

Is Witbooi worth the fuss?

Diminutive in stature, Cape Town City star Emile Witbooi is far from the finished product. However, the 17-year-old is highly thought of in South Africa. City has placed a big price tag on his head, thought to be rising to R20 million, so Pirates will need to think long and hard about how they structure any potential deal for the attacking midfielder born in 2008. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Cemran Dansin is clearly popular among the fanbase.

Argentina battle England for a place in the World Cup final

After Spain strangled and suffocated France with their possession-style football, Luis De La Fuente’s European champions ae waiting for one of Argentina or England in Sunday’s final. Lionel Messi will be facing the Three Lions for the first time in his life on the occasion of his 206th cap. Sounds ridiculous, but it’s true.
