Orlando Pirates coach: Sometimes a coach can be tired

The Orlando Pirates mentor says he has returned refreshed and remains fully committed to the club despite speculation linking him with jobs elsewhere.

Ouaddou enjoyed a dream first campaign at the Buccaneers, guiding the Buccaneers to a domestic treble by winning the Betway Premiership, MTN8 and Carling Knockout titles.

His remarks come after he revealed at the end of last season that he felt tired and was unsure whether he would return for the new campaign, sparking widespread speculation over his future.

Speaking about those comments, Ouaddou said leading a club of Orlando Pirates’ stature takes a huge physical and mental toll.

“I really had a good time [resting], I was just honest with people. I felt tired, you know, because to lead such a fantastic club, with fantastic fans, it’s demanding.

“Everybody knows that it’s demanding. So, I don’t understand why some people don’t understand that sometimes coaches can be tired.”

The 46-year-old said the break allowed him to recover fully and return with renewed energy for the new season.

“I’m back, and I have recharged all my batteries, I’m not 100%, I’m 2000%.”

ORLANDO PIRATES RECEIVE LOYALTY PLEDGE

Ouaddou also dismissed speculation that he was considering leaving the Buccaneers after reports linked him with opportunities in North Africa and Europe.

“What I want to say is, I have read a lot of things. That there was interest in me from North Africa, in Europe. People need to understand that I’m a very loyal person. I have a lot of respect for these people (Orlando Pirates management).

“They gave me the opportunity to lead such a big club. It’s not given to anybody. So I must be very loyal, loyal to these people. I’m very loyal to fans.”

After delivering three major trophies in his first season, Ouaddou has now made it clear that his focus remains firmly on building more success at Orlando Pirates, with the refreshed coach eager to continue the Buccaneers’ winning momentum.
