Soweto giants Orlando Pirates have their tails up before facing Kaizer Chiefs in the derby at the FNB Stadium on Sunday at 15:00.

While the Buccaneers won the previous derby 3-0 in February and currently occcupy position one on the Betway Premiership, Amakhosi are on the up with six matches unbeated.

ORLANDO PIRATES FOCUS ON THE RIGHT DETAILS

Assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has made it clear that the team is not looking at names or reputations going into the game.

For him, the danger lies in assuming anything before kick-off. “One danger that we avoid is measuring teams before we play them. The size and name of the team have no consequence on how you perform on the day,” said Ncikazi.

The former Maritzburg United coach believes Orlando Pirates have built their season on a clear approach, and that should not change because of the occasion.

Ncikazi said the technical team is set on playing the game rather than playing the occassion.

“It’s the analysis. If you look at the matches, we did not do well, where we played draws, you would not have predicted before you played them. So, for me, it’s just to analyse the opponents before we play them,” Ncikazi added.

“We analyse the threat they pose to our team, how we can manipulate and try to impose ourselves. We avoid looking at the names, but we just look at the opponents based on what they do on the field of play.

“Whether it’s Stellenbosch or Orbit at the end, it doesn’t matter. We just have to approach them the same way with the same mentality of trying to get three points,” the Orlando Pirates tactician concluded.
