Orlando Pirates attacker not to return to the club in January

Orlando Pirates winger Gilberto looks set to extend his loan deal at Petrol de Luanda.

The struggling Angolan star joined Luanda at the beginning of the year on a six-month loan deal.

His deal was then extended by a further six-months, allowing him to remain in his home country until the end of 2025.

Orlando Pirates attacker to remain in Angola

According to the latest transfer gossip, Gilberto will not be returning to Soweto in January.

Instead, the Orlando Pirates winger’s loan will once again be extended into 2026.

“At this stage, both parties are happy with the deal and I don’t see a way back for him at Pirates. There were a lot of factors that derailed his progress at Pirates. Most of them were off the field, but he’s doing well again for Petro,” an insider told Citizen.

The publication further went on to hint that Gilberto may end up not returning to the Buccaneers at all.

Gilberto was a costly error

Currently, Orlando Pirates have a variety of top quality wingers at the club.

Their list includes Oswin Appollis, Tshepang Moremi, Kamogelo Sebelebele and Relebohile Mofokeng.

Given Gilberto’s struggle to adapt to life in South Africa, it’s highly unlikely the club will bring him back anytime soon.

Pirates paid a reported R11 million to lure the Angolan star to South Africa last year.

Unfortunately that’s football, it doesn’t always go according to plan with new foreign signings.
