One suspect killed, three arrested in Roodepoort armed robbery

  • JMPD officers fatally shot one suspected robber and arrested three others during a robbery in Roodepoort.
  • Police recovered two firearms with filed-off serial numbers at the scene.

One suspected armed robber was fatally shot by Johannesburg Metro Police officers in Roodepoort on Saturday afternoon, while three of his accomplices were arrested.

The group was involved in an armed robbery that took place on Goldman Street in Florida, Roodepoort.

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla said officers were on routine patrol in the area when they suddenly heard gunshots.

“They immediately responded to a business at 27 Goldman Street, where they found a robbery in progress. Upon arrival, officers confronted four male suspects. Two of the suspects were armed and had allegedly fired shots inside the business. The officers managed to apprehend three of the suspects, while one suspect was fatally wounded during the confrontation.”

Two firearms with filed-off serial numbers were recovered at the scene. The three suspects were detained at the Florida SAPS on charges of business robbery, attempted murder, and possession of unlicensed firearms.
