Zamalek have announced ex-Benfica and FC Porto boss Jesualdo Ferreira as new head coach.
He returns for his second stint at the club where he won the league and Egypt Cup in the 2014/2015 season, just days after Patrice Carteron left.
Zamalek beat Pitso Mosimane and Al Ahly to last season’s league title – their first in seven years – but had dropped to fourth place on the log by the time of Carteron’s departure.
The White Kights are yet to win a CAF Champions League group stage game, drawing two before losing 3-1 to Wydad Casablanca.
Overall the club had won just one of their last nine games in all competitions, leading controversial president Mortada Mansour and Carteron to agree to a mutual contract termination.
Carteron had been in charge for 40 games during his second spell at the club, winning 27 and losing just five.
