The Polokwane municipality’s case against Marumo Gallants to prevent them from taking their DStv Premiership clash against Kaizer Chiefs to Rustenberg has been dismissed.
Earlier on Friday, this website reported that the municipality took the matter to court after Gallants chose not to honour the fixture at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, which they feel is a breach of contract by Gallants, who have an agreement to play all their fixtures at the Polokwane-based Stadium.
iDiski Times was at the court hearing over the past week and has since explained the latest findings by Judge Gerrit Muller after 116 tickets had already been sold for the Peter Makaba Stadium.
Muller says the applicant failed to prove why the game should be played in Polokwane. “It is unfortunate that the court is forced to prepare the judgement in a very short period of time. The application has been dismissed with costs.”
Gallants Chairman Abram Sello admitted he’s relieved that the matter has now been resolved but stopped short of pointing fingers at any of the parties involved.
“I’m very relieved, we didn’t sleep for almost two weeks since this thing started, but now it can be at an end, let’s go fight on the battlefield at Royal Bafokeng now – and come back home,” Abram said to iDiski Times journalist Lethabo Kganyago on Friday afternoon.
“It was very stressful. I’m relieved without judging anybody, not saying who’s wrong and who’s right. I think we still have a lot more to do with this contract.
“They were training here this morning – they will leave tomorrow after the activation. If I tell you the number of tickets sold you would collapse… I’m not bragging, the most painful thing is selling those tickets and our football lovers can’t see the game.
“I’m not undermining my supporters in Limpopo. Remember Marumo Gallants, like any other team plays nationally, like Kaizer Chiefs go to Free State, KZN, with no harm so why us? Why can’t we move around to strengthen the base of our club?”
Chiefs and Gallants are now scheduled to face off at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday afternoon (15h00).
