Official: Sundowns Appoint New Head Of Academy

Mamelodi Sundowns have appointed Paulo Cardoso as the club’s new Head Of Academy.

Cardoso joins the club from Fluminense FC in Brazil where he served as a Youth Consultant, and has previously also worked with Portuguese FA, CSKA Sofia, Sporting, Melbourne Victory and the KZN SAFA Academy.

“Mamelodi Sundowns FC has developed a visionary and ambitious strategy for the future of the club with the appointment of Paulo Cardoso as the Head Of Academy, that strategy is in capable hands,” read the club’s official statement.

“Paulo will be leading and running the Mamelodi Sundowns Development Academy as the club strives to produce the best possible footballers with a holistic approach to the individuals and making sure that school-education will be at the highest level for the academy players.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Technical Director, Flemming Berg said: “Hiring a new Head of Academy isn’t just a recruitment process; it’s a pivotal moment in shaping the future of our club.

“Paulo comes with extensive knowledge from the highest international level and has worked with some of the absolute best players in the world like Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Bruma.”

  • Portuguese FA – Technical Consultant
  • CSKA Sofia – Academy Director
  • KZN SAFA Academy – Technical Director
  • Sporting P – Technical Director, Academy Scout Coordinator and International Scout
  • Melbourne Victory – Academy Director

Education:

  • EUFA A Coaching License
  • Degrees – in Sports Science and in Sport Management
  • MBA On Football Leadership

Cardoso replaces former Head of Academy Shawn Bishop who left the club in July after 12 years of service.
