The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed that the winner of the Motsepe Foundation Championship for the 2022/23 season will receive prize money of R5 million.

The Motsepe Foundation Championship has been a tightly contested affair this season and the winner will only be known on the last day of the season.

It has seen a R2-million prize increase from the GladAfrica Championship campaign since the newly sponsored Motspe Foundation, which was a last-minute agreement after the former ended their partnership abruptly with the PSL before the start of the 2022/23 season.

Three Member Clubs (Cape Town Spurs, Casric Stars, and Polokwane City) are all still in the running for the title and they will play their final matches on 14 May 2023 in Cape Town, Ekurhuleni, and Polokwane.

Spurs sit on 56 points and University of Pretoria at Athlone Stadium, while second-placed Casric Stars have 55 points and will meet All Stars FC. Third-placed Polokwane City have an outside chance with 54 points, facing Petoria Callies – all games kick off at 15:00 on Sunday.

Due to the distances and variables involved, the League has decided that the Motsepe Foundation Championship trophy, team medals, and winner’s cheque, will be awarded at a later stage.

The details of the presentation will be confirmed in due course.
