Gallants confirmed the changes on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, bringing an end to Mohafe’s time in charge.

The Betway Premiership club have moved quickly to put an interim structure in place while they begin their search for a new head coach.

In a statement, Marumo Gallants confirmed that the club had parted ways with Phuti Mohafe and Musa Bilankulu.

“Marumo Gallants F.C. confirms that the Club has parted ways with Head Coach Phuti Mohafe and Assistant Coach Musa Bilankulu, with immediate effect.”

The club did not provide details regarding the circumstances behind the decision.

Gallants also made it clear that they will not engage further on the matter.

“The Club will not be commenting further on the circumstances surrounding the decision or engaging on the merits of the matter.”

Second assistant coach Trevor Mathiane will now take charge of the team on an interim basis as the club searches for a permanent replacement.

“In the interim, Second Assistant Coach Trevor Mathiane will assume responsibility as Interim Head Coach, while the Club continues its search for a new Head Coach.”

The immediate priority for Mathiane will be maintaining stability within the squad and ensuring that preparations for the season continue as planned.

NEW PLAYERS FROM ORLANDO PIRATES

The coaching changes were not the only significant development announced by Marumo Gallants.

The club also confirmed the arrival of Daniel Msendami and Abdoulaye Mariko, who have joined on loan from Orlando Pirates.

The two players arrive following the departure of Bheki Mabuza, who has joined Orlando Pirates.

Gallants say the changes will not affect their focus on the remainder of the campaign.

“Marumo Gallants F.C. remains focused on ensuring continuity within the team and maintaining its preparations and commitments for the remainder of the season.”

The club will now begin the process of identifying a permanent successor to Mohafe, while Mathiane takes responsibility in the interim.

For Gallants, the focus will be on ensuring that the latest changes do not derail their season as they prepare for their upcoming commitments.
