Former Maritzburg United coach John Maduka has returned to Royal AM, iDiski Times has learnt.
The 52-year-old left the club ahead of the 2022/23 season to join the Team of Choice in a move that happened while Royal AM owner Shauwn ‘Ma’ Mkhize was overseas.
She wasn’t happy with the coaching changes upon her return but it was too late, as Khabo Zondo had already joined her club. Mkhize then added Dan Malesela to her technical team to work with Zondo and Abram Nteo but from the trio only the latter was still on the sidelines.
Malesela left the club in October because he wasn’t happy with the co-coaching setup, while Zondo is understood to have been shifted to Head of Development.
But results were not forthcoming for Nteo as sole head coach, leading the club to bring Maduka back.
“Welcome back coach Maduka,” said a brief statement on the club’s social media pages.
Maduka had been in charge of the club during their inaugural DStv Premiership campaign after MaMkhize had bought the status of Bloemfontein Celtic.
Despite only confirming the deal a few days ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, Maduka managed to lead his side into a surprise third place that saw them qualify for the 2022/23 CAF Confederations Cup.
