The 34-year-old picked up a quadriceps injury in Saturday’s training and will not be able to recover in time, France confirmed just now. Didier Deschamps is yet to call up a replacement for the in-form striker. Benzema will now miss his third World Cup after being snubbed for the 2010 and 2018 editions. He is the first Ballon d’Or winner to miss the tournament since 1978.
