Former Bafana Bafana and Manchester United defender Quinton Fortune has bagged himself a new coaching gig, joining Veljko Paunovic as assistant coach at Mexican outfit Deportivo Guadalajara.
Fortune, 45, has previously worked as Manchester United’s U23 assistant coach before joining Paunovic at Reading as first-team coach.
He has now moved with Paunovic to South America to join Mexican giants Chivas.
“Club Deportivo Guadalajara is a great challenge for Veljko Paunovic, so he will need the support of highly qualified people who complement the intentions of the new Atletico coach,” the club said via a statement, as translated into English.
“Below we will introduce you to the assistants who will help the Herd strategist in preparing the team for Clausura 2023.
“3 is the magic number… 3 are the assistants that ‘Pauno’ will have in Guadalajara . Who is it about? Nothing more and nothing less than Claudio Arzeno, Nuno Miguel Gomes and Quinton Fortune .
“Fortune, who played for Manchester United and Atlético de Madrid in his playing career, in addition to playing in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups with the South African national team, will be in charge of the set-pieces.
“Something that has become very relevant worldwide, since it is increasingly common for teams to do damage in this way, and a resource that Chivas needs to strengthen yes or yes.”
Fortune becomes the second South African to move to Mexico this season after Banyana Banyana star Jermain Seoposenwe joined La Liga MX Femenil side Juarez.
