Former Bloemfontein Celtic head coach Veselin Jelušiċ has been announced as the successor of Thabo Senong, the Lesotho Football Association has confirmed.
Senong resigned as Likuena last year before taking over as the assistant coach of Premiership newcomers Sekhukhune United.
The Serbian now takes charge and boasts a wealth of experience on the continent working in South Africa, Zambia, Angola and Botswana, having first arrived back in 1992.
“It is my great honour and pleasure to be chosen to be the coach of the Lesotho National team and I would like to give my promise that I will do my best to contribute to the achievements and goals of the Lesotho Football Association,” he said on Tuesday.
“I know the country has limitations in terms of players playing in professional leagues as we get to play against top countries in the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers, but that does not matter, and we will always give our best to make the country proud.”
The Serbian’s first challenge will be the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations back-to-back preliminary round qualifiers against Seychelles.
Jelušiċ has been set a mandate to focus on youth and introduce new emerging talent into the first team in order to develop within the senior national team.
