FC Barcelona have announced the signing of Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer.

Gundogan, 32, had a stellar 2022/23 campaign, helping City to win their first ever UEFA Champions League title, as part of a historic treble.

He netted 11 goals, including two in the FA Cup final against Manchester United, and set up seven more in 51 appearances for City in 2022/23.

Overall, he has made 304 appearances for City, scoring 60 times and wasting in 40 more after famously becoming Pep Guardiola’s first signing at City.

However, on Monday he was announced as Barcelona’s latest signing, after putting pen to paper on a two-year deal, which includes an one-year option.

“FC Barcelona and Ilkay Gündoğan have reached an agreement for the German international to sign for the Catalans now that his contract with Manchester City has ended. He will join for two seasons, through to 30 June 2025, with the option to stay for one more year. His buyout clause has been set at 400 million euros,” the club said via a statement.
