Bafana Bafana defender Siyanda Xulu has joined Turan-Tovuz IK in the Azerbaijan Premier League.
The player who cancelled his own contract with Israeli giants Hapoel Tel Aviv after an alleged training ground bust-up with his former coach was training with AmaZulu when he returned home last season.
However, he was unable to be signed by any club, having left his former employers outside the transfer window. And with little match-fitness, he’s found himself in a predicament as his salary package put him out of reach of potential suitors in the DStv Premiership.
The likes of Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Kaizer Chiefs were all slightly interested but went on to pursue other options while SuperSport United went for Thulani Hlatshwayo upon the return of Gavin Hunt to the club.
The former Masandawana captain has now moved back outside the country to the Azerbaijani top-flight, signing a one-year contract, after stints with Hapoel and Rostov between his time with Amakhosi and Maritzburg United.
Xulu, who had been a key member of Hugo Broos’ Bafana team also missed out on selection recently, due to being club-less.
