Official: AmaZulu Make Folz Decision

AmaZulu have officially replaced Romain Folz as head coach after the latest run of bad results, with Ayanda Dlamini appointed interim head coach, while the Frenchman is now deployed as “technical director”.

Folz, 32, has been in charge of 18 games at Usuthu since taking over from Brandon Truter, but only won three, while losing six and drawing nine.

Despite receiving a new three-year deal in February, the club has now opted to redeploy the coach, after collecting four defeats since the decision, which took many by surprise.

Club president Sandile Zungu had explained the initial decision because Folz had an offer from another club and he wanted to secure him long-term.

Initially, Usuthu also tried back the under-fire coach and instead cleaned up the dressing room, wielding the axe on experienced players such as Keagan Buchanan and Ramahlwe Mphahlele.

But with Usuthu dropping to just four points ahead of the relegation playoff spot, the club’s leadership now changed their stance on the coach.

“AmaZulu President, Sandile Zungu has announced changes to the club’s head coach role with assistant coach Ayanda Dlamini appointed interim head coach, while Romain Folz has been redeployed to the role of technical director, advising the president on the technical aspects of AmaZulu’s Vision 2032,” the club said via a statement.

“The President explained the changes begin with immediate effect until the end of the season.”
