Nyatama Praises Mammila’s Tactical Nous Against AmaZulu

Swallows caretaker coach Musa Nyatama said the arrival of outspoken Morgan Mammila as the Technical Advisor has been a great addition and was “helpful” in his side when they beat AmaZulu on Saturday.

Swallows announced the appointment of Mammila for the Technical Advisor role during the FIFA break and he was on the bench when the Dube Birds beat Usuthu 1-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Nyatama said Mammila had a hand in the tactical changes in him taking off Waseem Isaacs and replacing him with Darrel Matsheke to solidify things in the midfield after they had taken the lead in the first half through Kagiso Malinga.

It was Swallows’ second win away this season, having beaten Mammila’s Chippa United in the first when Ernst Middendorp was in charge.

Interestingly, Mammila, in games he was in charge at Chippa United, won all two he played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium with the Chilli Boyz.

“Mammila is a very interesting guy,” said Nyatama.

“I have been with him in the coaching course and he’s someone that knows football and the relationship between me and him is very good and also helping each other.

“The first sub that we did of Darrel, he’s the one who said let’s put on Darrel and play with one striker. So he’s someone who is helpful.”

Nyatama said the win over struggling AmaZulu was “huge” in their fight for survival.

The Dube Birds moved to 13th on the DStv Premiership table with 27 points after 24 matches, one ahead of 14th-placed Chippa, three ahead of 15th-placed Maritzburg United and seven ahead of bottom side Marumo Gallants.

“It’s a big win for us and at least it gives us time to breathe a little bit,” said Nyatama.

“We still not safe though. We are still on 27 points and not safe. But we have time to breathe a little bit now in preparing for the next game against Mamelodi Sundowns.”
