The Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party has added controversial pastor Sthembiso Zondo to its by-election campaign team.
Zondo, known for his motivational talks but also for a leaked video that showed him in his house in the nude, has joined other church leaders supporting MK.
On Tuesday, Zondo campaigned alongside impeached Judge John Hlophe and other MK leaders in ward 24 in Port Shepstone.
Professor Thami Mkhize of MK in KwaZulu-Natal told Scrolla.Africa: “Zondo and others are deployed in Port Shepstone under the Ray Nkonyeni local municipality. We want to take that ward 24 in order to govern the district of Ogwini.”
Zondo was fired from Ukhozi FM in 2015 after a leaked video showed him naked in his house.
He hosted the Vuka Mzansi Breakfast Show, which had seven-million listeners. The SABC ended his contract due to the scandal.
The incident affected him badly. In 2018, he admitted to using alcohol to cope with the emotional pain.
Zondo couldn’t be reached for comment as his phone went to voicemail.
The MK party has been attracting many religious leaders and celebrities. They’re also contesting in Nkandla ward 4, held by the IFP until the councillor’s death.
By-elections are happening on Wednesday in 23 wards across five provinces: KZN, North West, Gauteng, Free State, and Mpumalanga.
