Ntsiki Mazwai begs DJ Euphonik to drop legal fees after losing defamation case

Ntsiki Mazwai pleads with DJ Euphonik to scrap court-ordered costs after defamation loss

Poet and singer Ntsiki Mazwai has reached out to DJ Euphonik, expressing deep remorse and urging him to withdraw the cost order secured against her following a defamation lawsuit she lost.

In a personal appeal made through his lawyers on April 14, 2023, Mazwai admitted fault for publicly accusing the music producer, whose real name is Themba Mbongeni Nkosi, of rape.

The messages sent ahead of Nkosi’s application to the Johannesburg High Court reveal a softer tone from the often-outspoken artist.

She reflected on the toll the legal battle had taken, writing, “In hindsight I see that I could have handled myself better, and I am thankful for the difficult learning curve that has so much refined my emotional intelligence. I thank you for your hard work, as it was you who were my teachers for this difficult lesson on how to handle my emotions better.”

Acknowledging her financial struggles, Mazwai pleaded for mercy.

“I hope the documents attached suffice in proving that I genuinely don’t have anything at the moment, but I take full responsibility for my actions.”

She added, “I hope we can come to some final understanding and put an end to this chapter… I am sure we all would appreciate ending this with dignity and peace.”

As her assets faced attachment, Mazwai reiterated her position, claiming she owned nothing of value.

“The car I drive belongs to the bank. The laptop I use is a loan from Kena Foundation. The cellphone I use is my sister’s extra phone.”

Still, she insisted, “I respect the court system and continue to abide by the court order… I am in no wilful defiance… but I would prefer that the entire cost is expunged so that we can all leave this saga behind us.”
