Ntseki Targets MTN8 Title – iDiski Times

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki has revealed his side want to go further than the semi-final this season and lift the MTN8 trophy.

Amakhosi got into the semi-final last year after beating Stellenbosch FC on penalties in the quarter-final, but lost to AmaZulu on away goals despite drawing both games.

The Glamour Boys started the new campaign under Ntseki with a draw against Chippa United and 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, with a MTN8 quarter-final against Cape Town City up next.

“The most important thing is for us to replay the two matches,” Ntseki said.

“We’ve played different matches, we’ve tried different formations, we’ve tried to look at our tactical understanding.

“But the MTN8 is different, it’s a sprint. Unlike the league, the league is a marathon. We still have to play the teams that we played in the first round.

“But in the MTN8 you play them once and you have to deal with them. I think the demands will be more on us to win games, on us to score goals and on us to defend goals.

“And also from the tactical side of it to be better in the implementation of our tactics. Also, it has got a lot in terms of our physical readiness because it’s an early cup game in the season and we’re still getting ourselves physically ready in understanding the demands of the game and also how we manage the game.

“Coming into the game on Sunday, it’s a Wafa Wafa, as it says. It’s for us to go out there and win the game. We’ve tasted how it’s like to be in the semi-final last year – even though we did not lose a game we were booted out of the cup.

“This year we’re looking forward to go beyond the semi-final into the final and if everything goes well us, to winning this trophy.”

The game kicks off at 15:00 at Athlone Stadium on Sunday.
