Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki has offered insight into new signing Ranga Chivaviro after an indifferent start to life at the club.
Chivaviro, 30, was a priority signing for the club from Marumo Gallants, where he scored 17 goals last season and they secured him despite some behind-the-scenes issues with a pre-contract saga with Richards Bay.
He was not present in their pre-season friendlies that were televised, Young Africans and Township Rollers as he nursed an ankle injury but featured in their 0-0 draw with Chippa United and toiled against Mamelodi Sundowns in their 2-1 defeat on Wednesday.
But Ntseki allayed concerns over their new striker, suggesting it’s only a matter of time before he reproduces that sort of form that earned him a move to the Soweto giants.
“I think it’s about recovery, we never had Ranga with us in pre-season, he just came in and trained on his own but with the team in camp,” Ntseki said in the post-match press conference at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
“I think it’s been more about recovery [for him] because he played 72 minutes against Chippa, we’re fully aware that today he wasn’t going to be as quick, as light, as mobile as expected.
“But the plan for us was to keep the centre-backs more worried about him, staying between the two centre-backs and I think he did what was needed to be done.
“Unfortunately, he didn’t get a goal but he’s a quality striker, we’ll work on him and as soon as his confidence is good, he will deliver for the club.”
