Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Nteski has hailed Brandon Petersen after his clean sheet against AmaZulu and admitted the 3-0 result is a major morale booster.
Chiefs secured their first league win of the season with Pule Mmodi bagging a brace and Edson Castillo adding a late third, much to the delight of the home supporters at FNB Stadium.
And Petersen, who’s come under severe criticism from sections of supporters this season, was one of the highlights, as he kept his first clean sheet of the season in a convincing defence performance overall.
“When it comes to players in the team, we play as a team, if a player is not having a good game we always help them up, this is the reason we saw Brandon playing every game, despite the mistakes he’s making because he’s a quality goalkeeper,” Ntseki said.
“When it comes to him not conceding [against AmaZulu], it’s good for the club, it’s good for him and the goalkeeping department, but also the defenders played a very big role in making sure we don’t get balls played behind.
“It was a team effort, we were a bit deep in absorbing pressure AmaZulu was putting against us and in defending deep you’re likely to get spaces behind, but I think the most important thing was for us to win this game and in winning – it’s a morale booster for us as a club and the players in particular.
“Congratulations to the players who assisted in scoring, the players who scored, it was a team effort and as a team we’re celebrating and saying thanks to those who contributed.”
Chiefs now turn their attention to Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday at Athlone Stadium (19h30).
