NPA Confirms Two More Suspects to Join Tibana and Nonyane in R6m Estate Fraud Case
Two more suspects are expected to be added to the criminal case against former attorney Charlotte Tibana (pictured) and her husband, Tshwane Metro Police Department officer Peter “Gagash” Nonyane (pictured), over the alleged theft and laundering of more than R6 million from deceased estates.
The National Prosecuting Authority confirmed the development today, Sunday but has not yet disclosed the identities of the two additional accused.
The two new suspects are expected to appear in court tomorrow, Monday, where they are expected to be formally added to the case.
Tibana and Nonyane face 43 charges, including fraud, alternatively theft, and money laundering. The charges relate to funds allegedly withdrawn from estates that Tibana administered as an executor.
Nonyane was arrested in Pretoria on 14 August, while Tibana was arrested in Polokwane on 17 August. Both were denied bail and remain in custody, with the matter postponed to 6 November for further investigations.
The State alleges that about R1.65 million was used to purchase a second-hand Mercedes-Benz AMG G63, while other funds were allegedly used for stokvel contributions and the construction of a residential property.
In another estate valued at more than R4.2 million, prosecutors allege that only R1.47 million was paid to the deceased’s children.
The identities of the two new accused have not yet been made public.
