Jub Jub, also known as Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye, the presenter of Uyajola99 and a rapper, faced 13 charges in the Johannesburg magistrate’s court on Thursday.

These charges include multiple counts of r@pe, indecent assault, assault with the intent to cause serious harm, and several counts of kidnapping.

Maarohanye was arrested last month and was released on bail of R10,000.

The trial proceedings began with the state indicating its readiness for the trial.

Jub Jub’s lawyer, Terrence Baloyi, requested that the case be postponed to November 8 to allow sufficient time for him and his team to review the case files.

The first person who filed a complaint did so in February of the previous year, and other victims from the entertainment industry followed suit.

When Jub Jub arrived in court wearing a red-and-white two-piece outfit, employees gathered in the corridors to catch a glimpse of him.

There was initial discussion about whether the media could cover the case or not, leading to a short break for the star to confer with his lawyer.

Upon returning, his legal team stated that they had no objection to media coverage.

Phindi Mjonondwane, the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, stated, “We have shared the contents of the case file, and we are prepared to schedule a trial date.”

When asked if the NPA believes it has a strong case, Mjonondwane replied, “We have put the case on the docket because the evidence suggests a viable case for successful prosecution.”
