Nota Baloyi stands by Scooby Nero amid housing claims

Controversial South African music executive and podcast host Nota Baloyi has come under fire on X after commenting on the ongoing Scooby Nero saga, drawing criticism from users who accused him of defending a foreigner.

The controversy began when Scooby Nero faced widespread backlash for claiming he owned 80% of South Africa’s RDP houses, a statement he later retracted and apologised for.

In response, Nota Baloyi tweeted that Nero was “trolling obviously” but said he planned to meet him to “clear things up.”

“As far as I know he’s been married to a South African for more than a decade & in the 15 years that I’ve known him, we’ve only discussed music & content. No funny business. Let him land!” Nota wrote.

The comments, however, sparked immediate backlash from X users.

One questioned, “So he is legal because you know him?” to which Nota replied, “No, I know he’s legal & I want him to prove it to me because I know him…”

Other users criticised him for seeming to shield Nero, saying things like, “We are not interested in that explanation, just because he is your friend doesn’t exclude him from being investigated for what he said and if he is illegal in this country you can follow him back to Abuja,” and, “He must go back home to Nigeria. Enough is enough.”
