Norway! Ghana’s fake Paralympians disappear in Europe

Ghanaian authorities are investigating an incident in which people pretending to be para-athletes and their staff disappeared during a trip to Norway.

They obtained visas by falsely claiming they would compete in the Bergen City Marathon on 26 April but did not register for the event.

The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Ghana said these individuals had no official ties and were unknown to them.

The NPC called the incident “impersonation and misrepresentation” and said the fake athletes got their visas with fake documents.

Two people from a disability foundation, who are said to have helped arrange the trip, have been banned from disability sports in Ghana and reported to the police.

Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports is working with several authorities to investigate, promising that those found guilty will face consequences.

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Ghana and Norway’s National Police Immigration Service have not commented due to confidentiality.

NPC Ghana assured that this incident would not affect real Ghanaian para-athletes participating in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

They confirmed that no official team members or licensed athletes were involved in the fraud.
