  • A 33-year-old Potchefstroom man has been arrested and remanded in custody for allegedly rape.
  • The accused reportedly overpowered the child at her grandmother’s home.
  • North West police have condemned the crime.

A 33-year-old man from Potchefstroom has been remanded in custody after appearing before the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 30 September 2025, on a charge of rape.

He is expected to return to the same court on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, for a formal bail application.

According to police reports, the accused was arrested on Monday, 29 September 2025, for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in Oukasie Location near Brits the previous day.

It is alleged that the girl had arrived at her grandmother’s home where she encountered the accused. He reportedly overpowered her and forced her into a bedroom where the assault is said to have taken place.

The victim was allegedly threatened afterwards and told not to report the matter. Despite this, she informed her mother, who immediately alerted the police. A case of rape was registered, and the accused was traced and arrested within hours.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng, strongly condemned the crime. “Sexual paedophiles and predators like this must never be allowed to prey on defenceless and vulnerable children, and hopefully he will face the full might of the law,” he said.

Police confirmed that investigations into the case are ongoing.
