Lando Norris hit the wall twice but still managed to turn his pole position into a victory at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, held at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
The McLaren driver crossed the finish line 20 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, securing the third win of his career.
Oscar Piastri, Norris’ teammate, took third, while Mercedes’ George Russell finished fourth. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc came fifth, with Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes in sixth place.
Norris’ win cut Verstappen’s championship lead to 52 points, with six races left and 180 points still up for grabs.
The Brit dominated the 62-lap race from start to finish, marking the first Marina Bay race without a safety car interruption.
“It was an amazing race. A few too many close calls, a couple of little moments in the middle, but it was well controlled I think otherwise,” Norris told Formula 1.
“The car was mega. I could push, we were flying the whole race and at the end could just chill, so it was a nice race. Still tough, I’m a bit out of breath. A very fun one.
“It was good fun, maximum points, nice to have Oscar here too on the podium – he drove well today, so a good day for the team also.”
From the first lap, it was clear the race belonged to Norris, as Verstappen struggled with his car’s balance, handling the bumps, kerbs, and high-downforce corners.
