KwaZulu-Natal’s new Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube has promised to do what’s in the best interests of the province’s residents.

She was sworn in earlier as the province’s first-ever female premier.

Dube-Ncube replaces Sihle Zikalala who resigned after losing a bruising political contest during last month’s ANC provincial conference in Durban.

In her maiden speech, Dube-Ncube committed the Office of the Premier to play a more assertive role in providing leadership and coordination for government programmes.

She says she understands the mammoth task ahead.

“People of KwaZulu-Natal want to see the change in their lives. So, we are going to be really putting our efforts and our brains in dealing with issues such as gender-based violence,” she said.

“The matters of socio-economic development, that one of inequity that we see in our economy.

“We strongly believe that for us to grow as a province and create jobs, the small and medium enterprises are the businesses that are going to create jobs.”
