Orlando Pirates walked away with a convincing 3-0 victory over Marumo Gallants at the Orlando Amstel Arena, but head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou made it clear that the scoreline alone does not impress him.
The French-Moroccan feels this stage of the Betway Premiership season demands high standards if the club is serious about ending a title drought.
HOW ABDESLAM OUADDOU WANTS MORE FROM ORLANDO PIRATES PLAYERS
Orlando Pirates struck early, and from there they controlled large spells of the match while continuing to create opportunities in the final third.
However, Ouaddou believes the performance lacked the clinical edge and ruthless mentality required of a side that claims to be chasing the league crown currently dominated by Mamelodi Sundowns, who have won the title for eight consecutive seasons.
“I think I can say the only positive point today is the three points, that’s it,” Ouaddou told journalists.
“It becomes crucial that you need to finish in the last third, I have been saying that. It’s becoming a sickness. If you want to be more ambitious, let’s convert the chances and let’s say I can go further and deeper and say. Let’s be serious, let’s be more serious in the last third.

“We’re not here to play circus, we’re here to compete. There’s a lot of expectation from the club, from the fans, it’s a huge club in Africa. Everybody is ambitious here, I am very ambitious and I will not hide, we want to win the title!
The Orlando Pirates mentor added to say that the club’s ambition would not be hidden. He feels that any player who did not want to compete for the title needed to be upfront about it. He would not waste time with those who treated the pitch like a joke.
