The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry postponed its Monday hearing after alleged corrupt businessman Brown Mogotsi failed to appear, citing illness.
The political fixer was expected to return to the stand on Monday morning following his appearance before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee.
He last appeared before the commission in November 2025, where he made several startling claims and admissions.
Evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson said Mogotsi was expected to canvass several outstanding issues that remain unaddressed.
Chaskalson told the commission that Mogotsi informed them he was not feeling well and has promised to submit a medical certificate later today.
Chairperson Mbuyiseli Madlanga expressed dissatisfaction with Mogotsi’s absence.
“Our idea when we discussed the matter amongst the three of us was to say, because he is in contempt from where we are sitting, we are going to have the commission initiate the necessary legal processes against him,” said Madlanga.
The commission has faced ongoing challenges due to an increasing number of witnesses failing to conclude their testimonies, often citing illness ahead of scheduled appearances.
Proceedings are expected to resume on Wednesday.
