‘No dropping our heads,’ declares Marumo coach

Marumo Gallants interim coach Raymond Mdaka has declared that they will not “drop their head” amidst the challenges the club is currently facing.

Gallants duo of team manager Rufus Matsena and physiotherapist Dina Dhlomo were held hostage in Benghazi, Libya.

The DStv Premiership side struggled to repay a Libyan businessman who assisted them book flights when they had to play Al Akhdar in a CAF Confederation Cup Group A on the 19th of March 2023.

Following the return of the duo, there is uncertainty over whether they will be able to use the Peter Mokaba Stadium after their fallout with the Polokwane Municipality.

However, coach Mdaka has since said none of this has affected them. To prove that, Bahlabane ba Ntwa haven’t tasted defeat in their last three games.

‘NO DROPPING OUR HEADS’

“As much as I cannot dwell much on that with the other members who were left outside. I think once you build unity within a family, sometimes when we play, we would say, let’s fight for our own people,” Mdaka told the media.

“The fact that we have got challenges does not mean we need to drop our heads.

“And I think the character that the players showed is an element of understanding the situation we are in. I feel that’s what helped the team.”

MARUMO’S BITTER RELEGATION FIGHT

On Wednesday, the Limpopo side welcome relegation-threatened Chippa United, who are also in a bitter fight to avoid the chop.

The Chilli Boys are now under Siya Gwambi after Chippa Mpengesi demoted Kurt Lentjies following a string of poor results.

The Eastern Cape outfit will be looking to win their next few games to steer away from the drop zone. Gallants, on the other hand, are also in a similar predicament.

They are 15th, just two points behind Chippa, and know a win would move them further up the log.
