The home of Ngizwe Mchunu was reportedly set alight in what appears to be a retaliatory attack linked to growing social and political tensions in KwaZulu-Natal.

The incident, which reportedly took place at one of his properties in Mbumbulu, has sparked widespread debate online and renewed concerns over escalating hostility surrounding anti-immigration protests and political activism in South Africa.
According to multiple social media reports and eyewitness accounts, unknown individuals allegedly arrived at the property looking for him before setting parts of the home on fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, although buildings and personal belongings were said to have been destroyed in the blaze.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions surrounding his involvement in controversial anti-immigration demonstrations associated with the “March and March” movement and the Amabhinca Nation group. Critics have accused the movement of fuelling xenophobic rhetoric, while supporters argue that it seeks stricter immigration enforcement and prioritisation of South African citizens.
Videos and images circulating online showed flames engulfing parts of the property, with some supporters expressing shock and anger over the attack. Others on social media linked the incident to the increasingly volatile climate surrounding immigration debates in the country.
Mchunu, a former Ukhozi FM presenter known for his outspoken political views, has remained a polarising figure in South African public life.
Over the years, he has faced criticism and legal scrutiny related to inflammatory political statements and activism, particularly during the unrest linked to former President Jacob Zuma’s imprisonment in 2021.
This recent attack has intensified discussions about political intolerance, xenophobia, and the dangers of escalating public rhetoric in an already fragile social environment.
