A long-running public feud between media personality Ngizwe Mchunu and legendary musician, Eric Kulani Giyani Nkovani popularly known as Papa Penny may be easing, after an apology has been made.

While Papa Penny was on his podcast Bhinca Nation which is part of the Podcast and Chill Network, Ngizwe personally reached out to apologise after their highly publicised fallout, which had sparked widespread debate across South Africa. The apology is said to have extended not only to Papa Penny himself but also to the Tsonga community, who were at the centre of the controversy.

The dispute between the two figures gained national attention after a protest chant involving the term “Shangaan” ignited accusations of tribalism. Papa Penny was vocal in condemning the chant and called for unity, while Ngizwe defended the remarks, leading to a heated exchange that played out both in the media and on social platforms.

The reported apology has been interpreted by some as a step towards reconciliation, with supporters welcoming the possibility of closure after weeks of tension. However, there has been no widely confirmed joint statement from both parties, and Ngizwe has yet to publicly verify the apology in major media platforms.
As a result, while the narrative of forgiveness has begun to trend—particularly on social media—the extent of the reconciliation remains unclear. Observers note that the situation highlights how quickly public disputes can escalate, especially when they touch on sensitive cultural and identity issues.
