Ngizwe Mchunu, the self-styled president of the amaBhinca nation, and some of his friends have been banned from FlySafair.
One of his friends was recently turned away at an airport following an August incident in which Mchunu and his entourage were accused of disrupting flight FA196 from Cape Town to King Shaka International Airport.
Mchunu’s group caused a stir on the plane when they loudly sang King Shaka kaSenzangakhona’s praises. They claim they were “honouring” King Shaka as they were preparing to land. Their spirited singing led to clashes with flight staff and passengers.
Mchunu said a frustrated friend called him from the airport and said he couldn’t book a ticket because they were on a red list and banned from all FlySafair flights.
“How could they decide this without hearing our side? I’m getting legal advice to challenge this,” said Mchunu.
In August, FlySafair warned that their behaviour could lead to a ban. On 9 September, Mchunu said FlySafair told them they were red-flagged.
In a recent incident, security officers removed Mchunu from the Gateway Mall in Durban after he went to a Mugg and Bean restaurant to “teach white people” about Heritage Day.
