Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo has sent a message to the club’s fans after returning to the starting XI under Arthur Zwane.

Njabulo Ngcobo was part of the Kaizer Chiefs team that suffered their second successive 1-0 at Stellenbosch FC last weekend.

The defeat came after Stuart Baxter left the club as head coach and Arthur Zwane, together with Dillon Sheppard, took the reigns at Naturena. The duo made a couple of changes to their first starting XI, with Ngcobo finding himself at the centre of defence for a first time this year.

The 27-year-old also played his first game in front of the Gold and Black supporters after joining the team in July 2021 from Swallows FC and thanked the Chiefs fans for their support, even though they couldn’t get a result in Stellenbosch.

“First of all I would like to thank the supporters for supporting us. For me it was my first time to see the way people love this team, in the stadium you can see,” he told Chiefs’ media department.

“I think we did very well, the way we played. I think it’s just those few mistakes and they punished us. I think going forward, especially when we going to Durban ,we need to make sure we don’t do the same thing.

“In Durban, Kaizer Chiefs is a big team, everyone loves this team and I believe we will get maximum points.”

After the recent floods affecting Ngcobo’s home province, KwaZulu-Natal, and leaving over 5 000 people homeless, the 27-year-old stated he os hoping that things can return back to normal soon.

“First of all I think it’s not good there, people are dying, roads are not okay but we just hope in few days to come everything will be sorted because I also noticed that government is trying by all means to make sure that everything in KZN is in order,” Ngcobo told media.

“A lot of people even at home they are telling me about the water and roads but I think for now they are trying by all means the government to make everything okay.”

Amakhosi will face Lamontville Golden Arrows on Wednesday night at Princess Magogo Stadium, Durban. With Royal AM sitting in second place, Chiefs will hope to cut their gap to three points when they face Abafana Bes’thende.
