The Allied Movement 4 Change (AM4C) political party, which broke away from the National Freedom Party (NFP), has appointed a KwaZulu-Natal woman as chairperson to build structures in different provinces before the 2026 local government elections.

The party’s president, Ahmed Munzoor Shaik Emam – a former NFP MP – suffered a heart attack after AM4C failed to secure seats in parliament or provincial legislatures in the 29 May elections.

Sindi kaMaphumulo-Mashinini was appointed after the AM4C’s national executive committee (NEC) decided to give Emam more time to recover following surgery at a Durban hospital.

KaMaphumulo-Mashinini told Scrolla.Africa Emam is now recovering at home. She was the premier candidate for AM4C in KZN in the May general elections. The party was formed in March and managed to get over 7,900 votes.

“The president is in critical but stable condition, and we decided to resume the groundwork to ensure that when he returns from sick leave, he finds a strong organisation with solid structures,” said KaMaphumulo-Mashinini.

“Therefore, the NEC decided to redeploy me to the national level to build structures in different provinces in preparation for the 2026 general elections.”

AM4C was formed by Emam in March, along with KaMaphumulo-Mashinini, who was deputy president of the NFP under the late Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi.

KaMaphumulo-Mashinini said she is heading to Mpumalanga to build new structures and then to Gauteng before proceeding to other provinces.

“We are proud that as a new political party, we managed to rank among the top 10 organisations in KZN after the general elections,” she said.

She said they are planning a big event to thank their voters and volunteers who worked to put them where they are today.

For us, this is the beginning of good things to come for our party as we prepare for 2026,” she said.

“President Sheik Imam had high hopes that his party would secure one or two seats in the National Assembly. After the party failed to win a single seat in parliament, he suffered a serious heart attack.”
