New report on PSL midfielder to Kaizer Chiefs

As previously reported, Kaizer Chiefs joined Orlando Pirates in the race for the 25-year-old star midfielder.

An updated has now emerged as we edge closer to the transfer window opening on 1 July.

KAIZER CHIEFS MAKE BREAKTHROUGH IN MAXWELE CHASE

According to leading Kaizer Chiefs insider Innocent Mkhize, Amakhosi have already agreed personal terms with Maxwele as they look to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the upcoming season.

However, the deal is not yet complete, with the player’s future now seemingly dependent on a decision from Golden Arrows chairlady Mato Madlala.

Mkhize has revealed that while Kaizer Chiefs have done their part by reaching an agreement with the player, Madlala would prefer to see Maxwele join Orlando Pirates rather than move to Naturena.

That development could set up another fascinating transfer battle between South Africa’s two biggest clubs, with both sides believed to admire the versatile midfielder.

WHY MAXWELE IS ATTRACTING INTEREST

Maxwele enjoyed a productive first season with Golden Arrows after joining the club as a free agent following Royal AM’s expulsion from the Premier Soccer League in 2025.

The Mthatha-born midfielder featured regularly for Arrows, making 23 league appearances while also contributing in cup competitions. Across all competitions, he scored three goals and provided one assist.

Known for his relentless work rate, aggressive pressing and ability to carry the ball through midfield, Maxwele has developed a reputation as a player capable of operating both centrally and in wider attacking areas.

His energy and versatility have made him an attractive option for clubs looking to add intensity and dynamism to their squads.

For now, Kaizer Chiefs appear to have won the race for the player’s signature on a personal level. Whether that translates into a completed transfer could depend on the stance taken by Arrows and Madlala in the coming weeks as the transfer window gathers momentum.
