New Kaizer Chiefs striker Christian Saile Basomboli has received the No. 21 shirt at Naturena, which many will remember from Knowledge Musona’s spell at the club.
Saile was unveiled by the Amakhosi yesterday after they had already confirmed his transfer from Nchanga Rangers last week.
On Wednesday, the 22-year-old signed his three-and-half deal with the Glamour Boys and was unveiled by head coach Arthur Zwane, Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr and Head of youth and technical development, Moelfi Ntseki.
He was also unveiled with the No. 21 shirt, which many Chiefs supporters will have in good memory from Musona.
The ‘Smiling Assassin’ famously wore the 21 during his first spell at the club between 2009 and 2011, during which he scored 25 goals across all competitions.
He then completed a move to Bundesliga TSG Hoffenheim, however, he returned on loan in 2013/14 and scored another nine goals in 18 appearances. During his second spell at the club, though, he was donning the No. 11 shirt.
Chiefs fans and management will hope that Saile can have a similar impact to Musona, with Arthur Zwane revealing he hopes the striker can immediately hit the ground running.
Meanwhile, Lebogang Manyama was the last to wear the No. 21 at Chiefs, while Emmanuel Letlotlo (2016/17 to 2018/19), Morgan Gould (2015/16), Matthew Rusike (2012/13 to 2014/15), Knowledge Musona (2009/10 to 2010/11), Josta Dladla (2008/09).
