  • The NCC has recalled NAN Special Pro HA (800g), batch 51660742F3, across South Africa, Namibia, and Eswatini.
  • The recall follows the detection of Cereulide, a bacterial toxin that poses a serious food safety threat to infants.
  • Parents are urged to stop using the formula immediately and return it to the retailer for a full refund.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued an urgent recall for NAN Special Pro HA (800g) infant formula due to a potential health risk.

The affected batch, 51660742F3, was manufactured in June 2025 and distributed across South Africa, Namibia, and Eswatini.

This specific formula is used for infants at risk of cow’s milk protein allergies and has a shelf life of roughly 18 months.

The recall was triggered after the discovery of Cereulide, a toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus.

In a statement on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, the NCC confirmed that the presence of this toxin constitutes a significant food safety concern. Parents and caregivers are advised to stop using the product immediately to avoid potential illness.

The NCC has urged consumers to return any tins from the affected batch to the point of purchase for a full refund.

Retailers across the three impacted countries are expected to facilitate these returns as part of the safety protocol.
